William R. Braun
Opera News, July 2015

The Alpine Symphony is a triumph, with burnished tone in the offstage brass, a wind section that can play as a single instrument when necessary, and Thielemann shaping the midpoint achievement of the summit without distending it, so that the uninterrupted fifty-three-minute movement never seems padded. © 2015 Opera News Read complete review

Eine Alpensinfonie receives a very fine performance… Thielemann…offers a finely controlled performance. And though the big moments are superbly realised—a vivid Storm and a majestic panorama from the Summit—I admired even more the less flamboyant, subtle detailing of the performance. Perhaps one of the most impressive features in the whole performance is the way in which Thielemann and his players achieve tremendous tension in the build-up to the Storm. There’s an ominous stillness in this passage which is completely compelling.

This is a very fine set of performances and the music-making has been very well preserved on this DVD. The camera work is excellent: it’s to the point and does not distract in any way. The sound, too, is very good. This would be a splendid addition to the collection of any Strauss devotee. © 2015 MusicWeb International Read complete review

…Anja Harteros offers wonderful performances, and the voice is still beguilingly soft-grained; but the performances are distinguished primarily by the singer’s sheer musicality, the phrasing and the intelligent use of the words. © 2015 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

Robert Benson, February 2015

Harteros is in glorious voice, her sound is perfect for this music. Thielamann knows his Strauss and conducts without a score, always precise and clear, showing limited emotion and not a drop of respiration. This is an outstanding DVD, not to be missed. © 2015 Read complete review

My Classical Notes, January 2015

I found that Soprano Anja Harteros has a warm, full-bodied, lyrical and well-trained voice. She brings a fine interpretation to [Strauss’] amazing songs. © 2015 My Classical Notes Read complete review
