PUCCINI, G.: Turandot (Bregenz Festival, 2015) (NTSC) 731408
PUCCINI, G.: Turandot (Bregenz Festival, 2015) (Blu-ray, HD) 731504

…Andre Schuen, Taylan Reinhard, and Cosmin Ifrim—sing with wistful aplomb of their lives away from Peking, and they should be commended for their movement/dance skills.

…Conductor Paolo Carignani leads a stirring performance by the Wiener Symphoniker. The Prague Philharmonic Choir and Bregenz Festival Choir sing with precision and beauty from their offstage redoubt, avoiding the rain that sometimes pelted the very game performers onstage. © 2016 Opera News Read complete review

Janos Gardonyi
The WholeNote, January 2016

The overall, somewhat modernized show is a sound and light extravaganza with dancers, pantomimes and circus acts to dazzle the eye, but the opera comes through musically superb with spacious acoustics and some top singing artists plus two choruses, not to mention the Wiener Symphoniker giving it orchestral support. Young Italian tenor Riccardo Massi (Prince Kalaf) copes well with the power and the high notes; he is best in show. Young, up-and-coming Chinese soprano Guanqun Yu gives a heartrending performance as Liu, the little servant girl who sacrifices herself for love. © 2016 The WholeNote Read complete review

Christie Grimstad
ConcertoNet.com, December 2015

[Liù] plays her character with warmth, concern, passion and beautiful pitch. Set amidst strong string accompaniment, her buttery and impassioned “Tanto amore segreto” has fervor and pathos… © 2015 ConcertoNet.com Read complete review

Gramophone, November 2015

Riccardo Massi sings attractively as Calaf, with a very creditable ‘Nessun dorma’, …an enjoyable staging. © 2015 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone
