VERDI, G.: Aida (La Scala, 2015) (NTSC) 732208
VERDI, G.: Aida (La Scala, 2015) (Blu-ray, HD) 732304

The performance’s merits are its women’s. Kristin Lewis…sings and acts a most impressive Aida, musically sensitive and deeply felt. Though her warm, supple voice falls on the lirico side of spinto, she never pushes for effect, and the many ascents to piano on high are unfailingly poised and lovely. She has a formidable foil in Scala-trained Anita Rachvelishvili, an uncommonly youthful and feminine Amneris; …When these two are in control, the stage and the music come alive. © 2016 Opera News Read complete review

American Record Guide, March 2016

…this production boasts the best Aida-Amneris combination I’ve heard for a long time. American soprano Kristin Lewis makes a near-perfect Aida. She looks as Aida should: young, slim, and beautiful. She sings the demanding music as well as anyone today—probably better. She can scale her lovely sound down to the soft singing required in the two arias and the final scene, but she has plenty of power to unleash in the ensembles, including the big climaxes in the Triumphal Scene. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Janos Gardonyi
The WholeNote, January 2016

…[Lewis] simply enchanted the audience in a heartbreaking, gloriously sung performance as Aida. She even burst into tears in the midst of final applause. The other young lady, the lead mezzo (Amneris), Anita Rachvelishvili, perhaps stole the show with “the authority of her performance and warm, burnished tone and sheer vocal power” (Kenneth Chalmers) and made a big impression. …Conductor Zubin Mehta, quite dapper and almost 80, conducted without a score according to Italian tradition, with minimal movements, and gave a sensitive, solid, well-detailed reading to impressive sonic effect, his trademark. © 2016 The WholeNote Read complete review
