Joel Kasow
Fanfare, November 2017

The Ailey dancers make the work their own, perhaps some of the hip thrusts more heavily accentuated than by more classically trained dancers. Ronald K. Brown’s Grace is high energy, but not as clearly structured as either Chroma or Revelations, so that the viewer is exhausted long before the dancers arrive at the conclusion. Few are the choreographers who can sustain a crescendo of any length without falling short. Robert Battle’s Takademe is a party piece with a single dancer, Jamar Roberts, who is put through his paces to a sound track of various noises, with synchronized gestures, facial expressions, and fortunately under four minutes long. © 2017 Fanfare Read complete review
