PUCCINI, G.: Turandot (Palau de les Arts "Reina Sofia", 2009) (Blu-ray, Full-HD) 750104

Maria Guleghina has a powerful voice and complete command of the stage as Princess Turandot. Her scene with Alexia Voulgaridou’s vulnerable, beautiful and brave Liù is deeply moving. As the Unknown Prince who near the end reveals his identity as Calàf, Marco Berti has solid upper-register strength and little grace but sings “Nessun dorma” more smoothly than he did on last year’s Met broadcast. Alexander Tsymbalyuk is a rich-toned Timur. Fabio Previati, Vicenç Esteve and Roger Padullés are a colorful Ping, Pang and Pong. © 2016 Opera News Read complete review

American Record Guide, September 2016

[Valencia’s] is not the most beautiful voice, but she knows how to use it effectively. …The Liu of Voulgaridou is beautifully sung, softly suave, with a courageous characterization. Tsymbalyuk sings a regal Timur. The three ministers are a well-matched group vocally with a mean, nasty streak. Mehta leads a powerful, full-blooded performance from the chorus and orchestra. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide
