Henry Fogel
Fanfare, November 2015

The performance is all one could hope for. Solo and choral singing is first rate, the orchestra plays with impassioned commitment and technical excellence, and Schønwandt’s conducting is that of a true believer. This is a very important piece of 20th-century choral literature, and thus a rational candidate for the Classical Hall of Fame. © 2015 Fanfare Read complete review

Paul Rapoport
Fanfare, November 2002

The Holmboe is an odd work for this composer, but one he put great value on and which receives a stunning performance in its long-awaited first recording.

Roben Layton
BBC Music Magazine, November 2002

"The Requiem for Nietzsche is one of Holmboe's most inspired pieces and among the most powerful choral works of its time. Both the soloists are impressive and Michael Schonwandt and his chorus and orchestra seem totally possessed. The booklet annotator Paul Rapaport rightly speaks of it as 'a remarkable and remarkably unusual work - in Holmboe's output it is unique, as Nietzsche himself was in the last half of the 19th century'. Excellent sound, too."

Guy Rickards
Gramophone, October 2002

" This definitely will feature in my Critics' Choice later this year." Editor's Choice

Martin Anderson
International Record Review, October 2002

"It's at white heat from start to finish, with heroic performances from everyone involved. I hardly need add that I urge you to discover this elemental, essential, edifying work."
