David Denton
David's Review Corner, March 2016

Sixteen Chinese orientated melodies, mostly derived from folk music in the Chinese speaking world and arranged for an international market by Gerald Garcia. There are sixteen tracks, the songs covering a wide range of emotions, but musically of a lightweight character and quite short in length, the mix of plucked strings from the guitar and those bowed on the violin being ideal for that purpose. They bring together the Japanese-born violinist, Takako Nishizaki, who has become known as an ambassador of Chinese music around the world, and their top selling classical recording artist, and the guitarist, Gerald Garcia, who now lives in England where his Indian Summer is being spent as a teacher of the instrument. Not music for the high-brow lover of the classics, but each of the sixteen tracks offer a gentle pleasure, and would be ideal as a backdrop to a lazy evening. The 1984 recording, previously available on Hong Kong Records, is well-balanced and of an ideal quality for this music. © 2016 David’s Review Corner
