Richard Whitehouse
Gramophone, May 2014

Transcription is an art easily taken for granted in post-war music, making the inventiveness of a group such as Alpha the more striking.

Alpha’s playing is as secure in soloistic as in ensemble terms, and it has been caught to ideal effect in the warmly atmospheric acoustic of Hørsholm Church. © 2014 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

American Record Guide, May 2014

…everything here is engaging and exciting. The Alpha Trio has done an exemplary job in this music, transforming it and delivering it in their own voices while staying true to what made the originals great. This record makes a fine addition to any collection of new chamber music. © 2014 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

David Denton
David's Review Corner, December 2013

A strange release where the trio, Alpha, take existing works and reshape them within the bounds of their own instruments—recorder, saxophone and percussion. The result is never other than intriguing…Minimalism is laid bare, and nowhere more so than in the hypnotic quality of the two works by Hans Abrahamsen. Looking at the unusual line-up, you wonder how it can jell with such basically divergent instrumental sounds, but that is the magic of Alpha, a trio who perform the works without music. The very differing tuned percussion provides the pivotal role in supplying the myriad of subtle colours created, and offer the wide range of sounds we hear. Obviously outstanding instrumentalists, and very detailed sound. © 2013 David’s Review Corner
