Edward Dorall
New Straits Times (Malaysia), December 2001

Biret thankfully gets through the Scherzo [of the C major sonata] as fast and lightly as possible and has a joyful exuberance in the Finale... In the faster movements of the F sharp minor, Biret's Chopinesque touch perfectly suits the music's frequent rhapsodic moments, especially in the dancing second subject of the Finale... Biret's F satisfactorily pianistic as well as 'orchestral' throughout... Biret brings out the full drama of the first [of the Four Ballades], based on the tragic Scottish ballad Edward, and the lyrical sweetness of the second. The delicate Intermezzo third and the fourth's long slow movement are equally appealing."
