Penguin Guide, January 2009

Maria Kliegel proves a most sympathetic soloist, technically immaculate, undeterred even by the relatively ungrateful writing for the cello in the Second Concerto, so much less striking a work than No. 1. It is good to have the early Suite, a colourful collection of genre pieces, and the dashing Allegro appassionato, both originally with piano accompaniment and here arranged by the composer himself. Saint-Saëns most celebrated cello piece, The Swan, makes an attractive supplement, played in an orchestral arrangement by Paul Vidal, which adds strings to the usual harp accompaniment.

"It's all very virtuosic, and Maria Kliegel performs with impressive panache and precision. A most welcome addition to the catalogue."

"The orchestra plays marvellously well and Monard proves to be a real find...Kliegel never puts a foot wrong."
