Steve Schwartz
Classical Net, October 2011

The symphony opens with a magnificent tune full of Russian melancholy…the third-movement Andante boasts a melody as heartbreakingly tender as “Shenandoah.”

This whole movement breathes genuine optimism and joy in living…toward the end, you hear Prokofiev changing direction to something more thoughtful… it’s…marvelous.

I love Kuchar’s interpretive grip on the symphonies. His Seventh counts as the best I’ve heard…

Fanfare, April 1996

"Two of Prokofiev's lesser symphonies get a fine performances from this Kiev orchestra, formerly known as the Ukrainian State Symphony... The Seventh Symphony's comparatively light orchestration is less troubled by the reverberant recording than is the densely scored Third. At Naxos's price, the disc is highly recommended."

Classic CD

"...but where they really score is their unexpectedly affecting account of the Seventh Symphony."

"...a brisk, unfussy performance."
