One is struck by the vigour of the Allegros in Volumes 3, emphasized by Marco Fornaciari’s extrovert style and very open timbre. Yet in slow movements he fines down his tone most beautifully. The Largo of the B minor Concerto, accompanied solely by the basso continuo, is particularly fine, while RV 262 brings a memorable central siciliana. The first movement of the F major, RV 285, introduces a second solo violin to echo the first, and the central melody of the slow movement is framed by a remarkable chromatic series of repeated descending chords.
