John J. Puccio
Classical Candor, March 2018

Maestro David Lloyd-Jones brings off both works successfully, especially the symphony, but unfortunately for him he has to compete in the tone poem with Sir Adrian Boult. …Lloyd-Jones makes the woods dark and menacing. Boult makes them magical, as well.

You actually can’t go wrong with this Naxos release; the performances are first-rate, the sound is OK, and the price is right. © 2018 Classical Candor Read complete review

David Hurwitz, May 2000

"Naxos is going head to head with Chandos in English repertoire, and while British critics no doubt will circle the wagons in defense of their home-grown product, the fact is that this newcomer beats the Brits at their own game... In short, this recording offers top quality in both performance and sonics irrespective of price, and makes the perfect starting point for anyone interested in sampling the work of this lusciously Romantic composer."

Pick of 1999

Hi-Fi News & Record Review, September 1999

November Woods is an absolute masterpiece... David Lloyd-Jones and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra perofrm both works to the manner born.

Geoffrey Norris
The Daily Telegraph (Australia), June 1999

"David Lloyd-Jones is an urgent and sympathetic conductor, drawing from the RSNO a quality of playing that vibrantly reflects the orchestration's sumptuousbess and translucence, and the music's passionate anguish... Cohesive, propulsion and evocative atmosphere are dynamically united in this performance."

Duncan Hadfield
, June 1999

"His [Bax's] Second Symphony... receives a pristine reading by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra... The various orchestral threads are sharply delineated... A considerable achievement."
