American Record Guide, August 2003

"Volume 3 of Naxos's series of the guitar works of Leo Brouwer maintains the high standards set by the first two volumes (Nov/Dec 1998 & May/June 2002). It also presents yet a third guitarist: Graham Anthony Devine, who follows Ricardo Cobo (Vol. 1) and Elena Papandreou (Vol. 2). These are tough shoes to fill: Cobo and Papandreou are both better known than Devine, and both play Brouwer with an authority and passion that seem unsurpassable. Devine does not surpass them here, but he certainly matches them in every respect: his musicianship is unimpeachable, his fleet technique is world-class, and his command of Brouwer's idiom is complete. If Naxos can continue to find superb guitarists for the remaining volumes, I think the mixed artist approach is a great one. All guitarists and guitar enthusiasts know this music very well, so the multiple perspectives can only enrich the project...Naxos's sound is marvelous as usual. (Why can't the bigger budget labels consistently produce a recorded guitar sound of this quality and faithfulness?) The notes by Devine are concise and informative."
