Classical Candor, October 2017

BACH, J.S.: Brandenburg Concertos, Vol. 1 (Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Muller-Bruhl) 8.554607
BACH, J.S.: Brandenburg Concertos, Vol. 2 (Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Muller-Bruhl) 8.554608
BACH, J.S.: Orchestral Suites Nos. 1-4, BWV 1066-1069 (Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Muller-Bruhl) 8.554609

Helmut Muller-Bruhl and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra observe some of the performing practices of the past with a fluent, contemporary sound.

Bach’s six Brandenburgs are notable not only for the attractiveness of their tunes but for their variety of instrumentation and diversity of style. Muller-Bruhl’s tempos for the First Brandenburg Concerto are quick but not breathless. The piece flows nicely…

Sonically, all three Naxos discs sound pretty much alike. The sonics are clear, clean, and well balanced throughout the midrange and treble. © 2017 Classical Candor Read complete review

Nicholas Anderson
BBC Music Magazine, May 2001

"Readers who place emphasis more on musicianly performances than period versus modern instruments will find the Cologne version invigorating, graceful and light of tread. ...Muller-Bruhl observes only the slow section repeats of the French ouvertures which preface each Suite. But all other repeats are scrupulously observed and, almost without exception the dances are brisker in the Cologne readings. If there is a more enjoyable set of its kind available at the moment then I have yet to hear it."
