Mark Pappenheim
Classic FM, August 2000

"Poor old Salieri, ever to be remembered-thanks to the film Amadeus – as the murderer of Mozart, rather than one of imperial Vienna's foremost composers and the teacher of Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt and even Mozart's youngest son. Good then to have Naxos's new collection of 12 of Salieri's operatic overtures. It reminds us just what a theatrical chameleon he was, encompassing every genre from the high classical tragedy of Les Danaides – originally passed off as Gluck – to the low bedroom farce of L'Angiolina. ...[Salieri's] music has charm and tunes, and is here played so persuasively by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra that you long to hear a few of these operas complete."
