BBC Music Magazine, April 2003

"Hats off to the orchestra of Castile and Leon for its efforts: always painstaking and precise, and committed to revealing this music in its best possible light."

Sound and Vision Magazine, February 2003

"This third volume of Rodrigo's complete orchestral works from Naxos brings a full measure of delight at his neo-Classical pieces for strings. The modo galante and divertimento are scored for cello and orchestra and Asier Polo is a deeply committed soloist. The remainder of the programme is the equally sensitive hands of violinist Mikhail Ovrutsky. Support from the Spanish orchestra (established only in 1991) under Max Bragado-Darman is superb."

"The orchestral works on this program are amongst the most atmospheric and delicious that I have experienced in some time. RodrigoÝs orchestrational language is certainly influenced by his countryman Manuel de Falla, but there is nothing about it that is anything less than fresh and original.

The Castille and Leon Symphony Orchestra turns in a performance that is without findable flaw. String playing is lush where needs be, and of shimmering transparency when appropriate. The winds play superbly, and particular notice should go to the oboe and cor anglais player(s), who literally sing throughout this magnificent performance.

Rodrigo is a composer with a unique voice, deserving of a wider appreciation. Bravo Naxos for yet again mining the fringes and striking gold. Excellent program and biographical notes enhance a disc whose sound quality is first tier. DonÝt walk, run to the CD shop and add this one to your collection."

"Performance standards are uniformly high on all of these recordings. Both conductors and orchestras and all of the sterling soloists obviously cherish this music. Sonic quality is consistently high even though two different recording venues were used, with different producers and engineers. There's plenty of zing to guitar sound, rich resonance to strings, a wide dynamic range and just the right amount of hall sound. Highly recommended!"
