"Vatin plays with style and grace... Darko Milovich and Xavier Vander Linden are the violinists, and Aleksandr Khramouchin the cellist. They are barely more than a continuo for the concertinos, but they come to life in the trios, a unified ensemble playing with considerable gusto; the cello is particularly fine. The recordings of the trios are excellent, up close and yet natural."
These are relatively short chamber concertos, delightful in their uncomplicated cheerfulness. The keyboard dominates throughout the all-too-short movements, and the relatively massive sound of the 1893 Erard instrument sounds almost like a modern piano. It was a clever idea for producer Darko Milowich to have two string trios interspersed so as to create a change of ambience. Performances are idiomatic, and the recorded sound superb.
