Andrew Achenbach
Gramophone, June 2014

Naxos gives us the Symphonic Suite…consistently rewarding listening it makes, too, full of superior invention, and always displaying a refined harmonic sensibility and felicitous understanding of the orchestra…First-rate contributions from both soloists and energetic playing from Francesco La Vecchia’s Rome band. © 2014 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

International Record Review, May 2014

This stimulating series gains much from the impressive playing of the privately finances Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma…Le Vecchia and his Roman players give a committed and idiomatic account, pleasingly detailed and rhythmically incisive, and highly skilled… © 2014 International Record Review

MusicWeb International, April 2014

Francesco La Vecchia, his Roman orchestra and Naxos have already put us much in their debt for their whole-hearted exploration of the byways of Italian music…They play all these works with much commitment and obvious enjoyment.

…this is a very fine release on all counts…this is a disc to cherish and no admirer of Petrassi’s music will want to be without it. © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review

David Denton
David's Review Corner, February 2014

The musical world having lost contact with the Italian composer, Goffredo Petrassi, throughout the Second World War, he reemerged at the cutting edge of modernism. Certainly he made his name…in the world of the avante garde who held sway in the post-war years. The ballet, La follia di Orlando, was completed in 1943 and is from the same world of tonality. The story is not a happy one, but the music makes for pleasant listening…Mario Ancillotti gets around the virtuoso flute concerto with a show of agility; the veteran name among Italian pianists, Bruno Canino, deals admirably with the piano concerto, and throughout the Rome orchestra deals excellently with complex scores in a very extended recording schedule. The composer has never been more faithfully served. © 2014 David’s Review Corner
