Ramiro…has the ability to play and interpret this music.

[The] pieces are nicely put together and played with enthusiasm. Collectors of this series need not hesitate. © 2014 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Largely consisting of works from Albeniz’s early compositional career this is an interesting exploration of his first influences.

Through sensitive and intelligent interpretations, this CD offers the listener a musical journey from youthful works to those of the Spanish master’s mid-career.

Ramiro performs with a captivating impression of spontaneous improvisation. © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review

David's Review Corner, June 2014

It is five years ago since Naxos issued the third volume of piano music by Isaac Albéniz…[this disc] proves to be a motley collection, as it goes from salon music, aimed at the amateur pianist, through to substantial scores, here represented by the Fifth Sonata. Even in these ‘serious’ works, where we find influences of Chopin, there is an element of light music, his more lengthy creations often heavily reliant on repetition, as you will find in the sonata’s first movement. Yet turn to the slow movement, and you have a piece of great beauty. The three Reves (Dreams) are of contrasting tempos, the central Scherzinoof particular attraction, while the fast opening Allegro of the Tres improvisaciones is the most engaging part of a strongly scented Spanish score. The remainder of the disc is given to the type of music, that, once upon a time, you would have heard played in fashionable restaurants. The disc is performed by the young Spanish pianist, Rubén Ramiro, a pupil of Guillermo Gonzalez, who started this series a decade ago. Winner of many major competitions, he is a pianist of the utmost clarity who brings a deft touch to light music. Excellent sound…strongly recommended. © 2014 David’s Review Corner
