Cesare Chiacchiaretta is an excellent bandoneon player and his playing is ravishing. © 2015 Pizzicato

The Buffalo News, February 2015

These tango concertos have a lot of spirit and nostalgia. A concerto for Bandoneon and String Orchestra by Roberto Di Marino…[is] lovely, very romantic in an old-fashioned way. Di Marino achieves unusual effects with those limited forces and plays up the bandoneon’s unique capabilities. © 2015 The Buffallo News Read complete review

David's Review Corner, December 2014

The bandoneon was brought into the world of classical music by the tangos of Astor Piazzolla, its sound seeming to typify steamy dance halls of Buenos Aires. Nowadays thought of as a South American instrument, mostly associated with Argentina, it was a Germany product related to the accordion. In its mix of empathic rhythms and seductive smoochiness, it is easy to become hooked on its sound, and though there are so many Piazzolla arrangements for other instruments, it is essential to his music. Maybe Oblivion has been recorded too many times, but I never tire of the Five Tango Sensations where it is often used just to colour the texture of the group. Given its world premiere last year, the three movement Bandoneon Concerto from the Italian composer, Roberto Di Marino, is also very engaging. Stylistically it looks back to Piazzolla as he bridges the gap between popular and classical music, and offers the soloist ample scope for virtuosity, particularly when played by the fast fingers of the virtuoso, Cesare Chiacchiaretta. The engineers have placed him a little too forward for the Tango Sensations, but I hope we hear more discs from the excellent Croatian orchestra who are a classy group under their conductor, Marin Vaupotic. © 2014 David’s Review Corner
