Kenneth Keaton
American Record Guide, January 2015

Mr Buono…and his performance here is simply outstanding—technically impeccable, tasteful and exciting (two qualities not often found together), imaginative and moving. © 2015 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

David's Review Corner, August 2014

The Italian-born guitarist, Emanuele Buono, has been gathering competition awards for seven years including the 2013 Michele Pittaluga Competition in Alessandria. That award gave him the opportunity to record this very varied programme from Renaissance Italy to 20th century Spain, his playing being uncommonly receptive to the many styles required. Indeed I have seldom heard the three Francesco Da Milano lute pieces played with such a perceptive period style on a modern guitar. Yet go to the guitar work by Rodrigo…and you can enjoy a brilliant display of technical virtuosity. Finally we have Antonio Jose’s 1933 Sonata, a work that seems to be stylistically confused between 19th century traditions and a desire to embrace modernity. It does, rather fitfully, give Buono another opportunity to impress with his deftness and clarity, together with silent left hand shifts. There is no shortage of competition winners in the Naxos catalogue, and the same is true of the disc’s contents, but I do urge you to hear this outstanding performer in excellent sound from the Naxos Canadian recording team. © 2014 David’s Review Corner
