Remy Franck
Pizzicato, November 2018

Alessandro Marangoni’s monumental Rossini edition with the composer’s Péchés de Vieillesse comes to an end with a series of premiere recordings of mostly vocal scores. Again, the pianist and his partners match the high interpretative level which was set from the first of the 11 volumes on. © 2018 Pizzicato

David's Review Corner, November 2018

Starting life in 2008, we now have the final disc in Naxos’s complete recording of Rossini’s Peches de vieillese (Sins of Old Age), and marks his death 150 years ago. …enjoy some delightful pieces performed with considerable charm. The silvery soprano of Maria Candela Scaliabrini deals perfectly with the coloratura of La gittane, the sixth of volume 1, while the ‘sugar and cream’ tenor voice of Alessandro Luciano makes a perfect partner to the mezzo, Giuseppina Bridelli, in the duet, Les amants de Seville, the third of volume 3. Vittorio Prato, who has appeared in the Naxos recordings of operas by Mercadante and Bellini, together with Bruno Taddia, are the two enjoyable baritones briefly involved. Alessandro Marangoni, who has masterminded the whole project, is the high supportive and flexible pianist. Now that Naxos has all of the material it could require, I hope they will issue the music in the original layout of Rossini’s original albums. I hope someone there will do it. © 2018 David’s Review Corner
