Marc Medwin
Fanfare, September 2020

Sergio Gallo treats each piece, whether sketch, fragment, contrapuntal exercise, or complete work, with the same care and obvious attention to detail. His playing tends toward the Romantic, sometimes to the detriment of those Classical themes that Beethoven would vary according to his own development. …Gallo is a master at voicing, and there are informative relationships to hear in every phrase if one can get used to dramatic subtlety. This is a worthy supplement to the collection of anyone keen on investigating Beethoven’s piano output. © 2020 Fanfare Read complete review

Alan Becker
American Record Guide, July 2020

…Sergio Gallo is a fine pianist capable of crisp, clean playing. This enjoyable collection of little droplets will seem like manna from heaven to many of us. Included is an alternate version of the bagatelle ‘Fur Elise’, cadenzas for Mozart’s Piano Concerto 20, and a generous collection of trifles for us to ponder on “what if the master had elaborated?” © 2020 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

International Piano, July 2020

A necessary consequence of Beethoven year, completists will hoover this one up. Even the tiniest morsel from Beethoven’s table tastes good. © 2020 International Piano

BBC Music Magazine, May 2020

All of these are delivered with proficient sympathy by Sergio Gallo in a close but spacious recorded acoustic. Some of the thematic ideas are charming and could have been extended into bagatelles to match Beethoven’s published sets. © 2020 BBC Music Magazine

Records International, March 2020

Including 54 seconds of premiere recordings, this program provides us with 36 of Beethoven’s rarely heard sketches, variations and briefest of compositions, even the earliest of which have much to teach us about the emergence of his unique voice and style. The range of Beethoven’s musical experimentation reveals a lasting interest in counterpoint, as well as practical pages such as cadenzas for a Mozart concerto, an incomplete sonata and a second version of the famous bagatelle Für Elise. A significant supplement to his greatest works, these miniatures bring the full arc of Beethoven’s singular genius into ever clearer focus. © 2020 Records International
