BBC Music Magazine, January 2009

the ever-reliable and stylish Raul Giménez

Fanfare, January 2009

The singing is of amazingly high quality…Orgonasova is simply wonderful—vibrant, girlish, fluid, singing off the text and with no problem with the role’s sometimes outlandish upper reaches…I can’t imagine a finer current exponent of the role. Giménez is equally good, his tone sweet, his high notes limpid, his passion undeniable…And so we finally have a Sonnambula one needn't apologize for—what a relief!

Penguin Guide, January 2009

The Naxos issue offers the finest version of the opera at any price since Joan Sutherland’s. Luba Orgonasova is an expressive and characterful heroine, agile and pointed in her phrasing of coloratura, deeply affecting in the tender legato of Ah non credea mirarti, with tone delicately varied. Raul Giménez is equally stylish as Elvino, the rich landowner, using his light Rossinian tenor most sensitively, with Alberto Zedda, scholar as well as conductor, pointing the accompaniment lightly. The other principals are not quite on this level but they make an excellent team. As usual with Naxos opera issues, there is a libretto in Italian but only a detailed summary of the plot in English.

"The Sonnambula is surely a prize gem in the Naxos crown"
