Huntley Dent
Fanfare, November 2020

Each pianist decides how forward-looking to make the music sound. Because he aligns with my own tastes, I was happy that Giltburg pours considerable energy into his playing without an inclination toward aristocratic elegance. Rough edges are Beethovenian at any phase in his career. Sonata No. 1 is in F Minor, and when Beethoven switches to major keys (A and C) for the next two sonatas, Giltburg comments that they emphasize charm, good humor, and extroversion.

Giltburg is at his most enjoyable in the fast, extroverted movements… In every other respect he’s musical, exuberant, and assured. © 2020 Fanfare Read complete review

The Guardian, July 2020

Giltburg’s approach to early Beethoven is refreshingly straightforward, and never contrived; textures are lean and clear, rubato never overdone… there’s more than enough here to make it worthwhile following the instalments to come. © 2020 The Guardian
