Roger Hecht
American Record Guide, January 2016

The performances are consistent in approach… The BRS has an affinity for Brahms, particularly the golden glow of its strings and brass, along with woodwinds that take advantage of the freedom Jansons gives them. Tempos tend to be slow, allowing for leisurely journeys and peeks around corners of the structures to find interesting details and phrasing. These readings have a chamber-like intimacy, but there is nothing small-scale or revisionist about them. Think of a slightly intimate form of romanticism. They are not a first choice, but they are a worthwhile supplement. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Phil Muse
Audio Video Club of Atlanta, October 2015

…Jansons directs the orchestra in deliberate, well-paced performances that reveal the major strengths of both the BRSO and Brahms: the rich string sound, the mellifluous woodwinds, and the dark brass that has an incisive bite when required by the music. © 2015 Audio Video Club of Atlanta Read complete review

Pizzicato, September 2015

Mariss Jansons’ Brahms symphonies are lyrical and colourful, and he is very sensitive to the finest emotional expressions in the music. © 2015 Pizzicato
