David Reynolds
American Record Guide, March 2018

The psalm settings performed here in a concert from December 17, 2016 have been recorded a number of times, but I can’t recall performances that surpass these. The Bavarian Radio Chorus is superb. The four sections listen and blend beautifully, responding and reacting to each other in a manner that is rare in recorded choral music.

The soloists are excellent. Soprano Johanna Winkel has the lion’s share of the solo work, and she has a lovely voice. …Bass-baritone Kresimir Strazanac displays a virile, attractive tone in his brief solos. The Munich Radio Orchestra knows this music inside and out. © 2018 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Howard Arman is an English choral conductor, who has made his career in Germany, where he has concentrated on baroque music. He secures confident and expressive results from his excellent chorus, which has to sing in three languages, and the soloists are all fine, particularly the soprano Johanna Winkel, who appears in four of the five works. The orchestra give suitable support. © 2018 MusicWeb International Read complete review

With utmost conviction from beginning to end the renowned Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks deliver appropriately devout singing, well focused and eminently unified. Conductor Howard Arman pulls everything together with calm assurance, adopting sensible speeds and dynamics. Of high order too is the playing of Münchner Rundfunkorchester such a versatile ensemble that seems completely at home with Mendelssohn’s music. © 2017 MusicWeb International Read complete review
