Robert Benson, January 2018

Riccardo Chailly is one of today’s finest interpreters of music of Gustav Mahler. …He continues now with this magnificent account of the problematic Symphony No. 7… This is a near-definitive performance. Orchestral playing is first-rate, video always seems to be in the right place. Of particular interest is the sonic quality. The engineers have captured the orchestra with uncommon beauty and natural ambience. © 2018 Read complete review

American Record Guide, May 2016

…the performance sounded as if Chailly were trying to get beyond the technically polished but emotionally uninvolved conducting persona he had shown too often by applying expression to the music.

Chailly’s interpretation has developed into quite a respectable one and works well with the lighter tone and alertness of the Gewandhaus ensemble. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

José Luis Bermúdez
Classical Net, December 2015

Chailly’s interpretation certainly favors lucidity and clarity over high drama and anguish. He is very successful at bringing out Mahler’s superb orchestration and at times the symphony sounds closer to a sinfonia concertante than to a symphony. One of Chailly’s great strengths is coordinating an intimate conversation between soloists across the orchestra. This comes across particularly clearly in the Andante Amoroso. © 2015 Classical Net Read complete review
