Scene Magazine, February 2014

…in the right hands, the requiem is a potent call for spiritual transformation and transcendence—a call that still affects audiences two centuries after its composition. Abbado is the ideal candidate to lead the musical charge into this breach between life and death. Under his direction, soloists Anna Prohaska, Sara Mingardo, Maximilian Schmitt and Rene Pape—as well as the instrumentalists in the Swedish and Bavarian Radio Choirs—create a truly great performance of a timeless masterpiece that will be enjoyed for many years. Numinous perfection. © 2014 Scene Magazine Read complete review

MOZART, W.A.: Requiem (Abbado) (Blu-ray, Full-HD) ACC-10258

The undisputed focal point here is the conductor himself, whose soulful intensity, both heard and seen, makes this video an important complement to any of the fine recordings in the catalogue. © 2014 Opera News Read complete review

Music Media Monthly, September 2013

This disc brings us a performance of Mozart’s Requiem from the 2012 Lucerne Festival…Celebrated conductor Claudio Abbado directs the festival orchestra he formed in 2003, along with two choral ensembles on which he calls regularly: the Swedish Radio Choir and the Bavarian Radio Chorus. The two choral groups deliver the powerfully pure and bright sound we would expect of them. Their attention to technical detail is remarkable—clear diction, consistent vowels, and remarkable agility in the quicker passages. The fugue in the Kyrie is impressively clean and each vocal part is audible. The soloists assembled for this concert are a distinguished group and they do not disappoint…This is an extremely precise, mostly musical, and very professional performance. Highly recommended. © 2013 Music Media Monthly Read complete review
