Guy Weatherall
Classical Music, September 2019

The quintet is even more rapt, dedicated to Vierne’s late son, and again the performance here more than does it justice. With warm, clear recorded sound this is enthusiastically recommended. © 2019 Classical Music

Fanfare, May 2017

These Deutschlandradio recordings takes down at Berlin’s Studio Britz in April 2015. The recording itself is fabulous, the recorded distance between the two instrumentalists and the listener most believable. Ingolfsson and Stoupel give a most affectionate account of the 1907 G-Minor Violin Sonata, a work commissioned by Ysaÿe and first performed by that violinist; Raoul Pugno was pianist on that occasion.

The Piano Quintet was composed in memory of the composer’s son, Jacques, who died in World War I. …The present players find a dramatic canvas in each of the three movements, while the whispered, almost hesitant rhythms that open the second movement are chillingly delivered here. © 2017 Fanfare Read complete review

Fanfare, May 2017

Fanfare’s critics have pointed out what a superior work the Vierne Piano Quintet is…and the present ensemble headed by Ingolfsson and Stoupel deliver a deeply felt reading. One especially appreciates Stoupel’s contribution since the piano provides the leading voice, but everyone fully participates in a moving experience.

A fine album, then, that successfully brings two neglected pieces into high relief. © 2017 Fanfare Read complete review

Heartrending performances of major chamber works by Louis Vierne. © 2017 Pizzicato

Remy Franck
Pizzicato, August 2016

Both of the chamber music works by Louis Vierne played on this CD have a lot of emotional power. The performers reflect these often tragic sentiments in an inspired and passionate playing. Highly recommended. © 2016 Pizzicato
