David W Moore
American Record Guide, May 2017

Here is a Polish program with variety, beginning with Karol Szymanowski’s romantic turn-of-the-last century Concert Overture, an enjoyable and substantial work that introduces this recording in a highly positive manner.

Witold Lutoslawski’s 1970 style is most amusing. This work has been recorded several times before, notably by its dedicatee, Mstislav Rostropovich. The present performance does it full justice, if that word can be applied to such a silly piece of gorgeous nonsense.

The sound quality of this recording is effective and the performances cover all the bases. The competition is fierce for all three works, but you won’t go wrong with this one. © 2017 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Capuçon takes a more lyrical approach to the work, and with his gorgeous tone his cello resonates superbly. The important brass interjections are not harsh, but are brilliant. …The balance for Capuçon/Liebreich is exceptional, and the recorded sound provides sufficient spaciousness. © 2017 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Andrew Farach-Colton
Gramophone, March 2017

I’m not going to beat around the bush: the reason to hear this recording—and hear it you should—is Gautier Capuçon’s ear-opening performance of Lutosławski’s Cello Concerto.

Alexander Liebreich is a sympathetic collaborator, finding moments of surprising beauty in the chaotic tangle of the orchestral part, and elicits warm, superbly articulate playing from the Polish National RSO. © 2017 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

Pizzicato, November 2016

Both Lutosławski performances on this CD are terrific and electrifying. Alexander Liebreich proves an expert of this music and gets an incredible intensity from the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Gautier Capuçon’s playing is no less powerful and concentrated. The recording made in the new concert hall in Katowice is gorgeous. Due to a strikingly perfect balance and a spacious sound this is for sure one of the best concerto recordings I ever heard. © 2016 Pizzicato
