Peter J. Rabinowitz
Fanfare, January 2020

…One who plays with consistent fluidity and beauty of tone, offering clarity without iciness, detail without clutter, mystery without murkiness, and assertion without violence. Most impressive, I think, is Chen’s attentiveness to the music’s shifts in character. On the macro-level, moving from the Sixth Sonata to the First (which follows it on the recital) momentarily jolts us into thinking that we’re hearing not only a different composer, but a different pianist as well. More important, on the micro-level, we find the same acute awareness when it comes to charting out the music’s quicksilver swings in tone of voice within a piece (even within a measure).

Warmly welcomed. © 2020 Fanfare Read complete review

James Harrington
American Record Guide, November 2019

I enjoyed the current disc quite a lot, and the very few fudged notes added to the excitement of the in-concert performances. This was recorded in March 2019 at Paliesiaus Dvaras in Lithuania, and the sound quality of the big Steinway is exemplary. No other music I know of calls for more dynamic range and sudden shifts of mood and dynamics. Yunjie does this and manages to sort out the many different musical lines that seem to go on simultaneously all through the pieces. I eagerly await the next installment in this (we can hope) series. © 2019 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

The Guardian, August 2019

This disc is one of a batch released by Accentus Music in partnership with the Académie France-Chine, launched last year to help build cultural bridges between Europe and China. …Chen plays with such evident devotion, he too wins you over. © 2019 The Guardian Read complete review
