Dave Saemann
Fanfare, November 2015

Gerard Schwarz’s Mahler Second is a taut, exceptionally well-played performance with gorgeous tone colors. This is a rendition of soaring lyricism and revelatory beauty. Schwarz may convince you that the “Resurrection” rather that Beethoven’s Ninth, is THE “Choral” Symphony. © 2015 Fanfare Read complete review

Fanfare, September 2015

This is as fine a Mahler Second as I’ve ever heard. First and foremost, it is the best played performance I know of. Schwarz’s tempos here are not slow, but because of his tremendous control over his players nothing seems rushed, and his interpretive gestures give one the feeling of considerable fluidity.

I suspect Schwarz’s album will make my Want List. He may not be a charismatic celebrity, but when he is good, he is very good indeed. This is Mahler conducting that belongs among the giants. © 2015 Fanfare Read complete review

The WholeNote, June 2015

The sonic quality captured in Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall is most impressive and the contribution of the choir is simply outstanding. © 2015 The WholeNote
