…this is a brilliant recording and performance. I would certainly commend it.

…this Capriccio set, at bargain price, would be a good version by which to get to know this opera. © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Thomas Moser is an excellent Fritz…Roland Herrmann makes a star vehicle of the Count’s song, and the many minor characters carry out their roles well. © 2014 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Gavin Dixon
Fanfare, January 2014

Schreker’s Der ferne Klang deserves a much wider audience than it has so far reached, especially in the English-speaking world, so this reissue of a fine 1990 recording from Capriccio is welcome indeed.

Conductor Gerd Albrecht takes a disciplined approach to the score, while still allowing the more expansive textures plenty of space. Thomas Moser is certainly up to the challenges posed by the lead role of Fritz, and as well as accuracy and projection he also gives a distinctive and highly emotive performance. The recorded sound is good.

This Albrecht version is the pick of the budget releases…this release is strongly recommended. © 2014 Fanfare Read complete review

Francis Muzzu
Opera Now

Schreker is enjoying something of a revival at the moment and these two releases are timely. Orchestrally I can see why, as there is an overwhelming amount to enjoy; both scores use a wide palate to provide some thrilling moments, and Schreker isn’t afraid to pull his punches when it comes to creating a big effect. Gerd Albrecht conducts both operas with appropriate brilliance and unleashes some gorgeous sounds. Gabriele Schnaut stars in both, and if you remember her glass-shattering later career you will be astounded at the lyricism, even delicacy, that she brings to her singing here. Josef Protschka and Thomas Moser are her tenors, both good… The supporting casts are strong and idiomatic. © Opera Now
