Paul Orgel
Fanfare, July 2018

…Charles Spencer, a veteran collaborative pianist. Playing a bright-sounding instrument that’s quite prominent in the balance with the voice, he’s an assertive interpretive force throughout, adding vitality and characterization to every song. Listen to his staccato articulations in “Der Leiermann,” for instance, or the piano’s interludes in Im Frühling, played with great freedom and imagination. © 2018 Fanfare Read complete review

Robert A Moore
American Record Guide, May 2018

As in his excellent Schumann album, Edelmann is everything one could want in a lieder interpreter. He is in command of a vibrant, vigorous, opulent, and expressive voice. His robust singing is complemented by exquisite soft singing. With prudently applied dynamics and tone coloring, fine sculpting of phrases, and evident understanding of texts, this is lieder singing of a high order.

Spencer’s excellent collaboration again appreciably enhances the performance with subtle rhythmic nuances and attentive caressing of phrases. © 2018 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide
