James A. Altena
Fanfare, July 2020

The strongest elements are the conducting of Gerd Albrecht, and the singing and playing of the chorus and orchestra … Both Pape as Matteo and Peter Lika as the Doctor wield their warm, fruity voices to good advantage. © 2020 Fanfare Read complete review

Uwe Krusch
Pizzicato, March 2020

With Italian and German parents Ferruccio Busoni grew up bilingually. This explains why he composed his ‘La nuova Commedia dell’Arte’ compositions Turandot and Arlecchino with a German text. But other influences such as Max Reinhardt were also woven into it. The combination of both scores is suitable as a full-length performance or here as a two-part recording. When composing, Busoni managed to combine the light Italian music with the German text. He wrote the text himself. The first merit of the recording is that it reveals compositional treasures. But it also convinces with fresh, lively orchestral colors that Gerd Albrecht got from the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin. The group of singers is equally good. The voices are clearly put in the foreground by the recording technique. Of course, this makes it easier to understand the text and also makes it possible to hear every nuance. © 2020 Pizzicato
