Huntley Dent
Fanfare, November 2019

…Besides Skride are violist Lise Berthaud and cellist Harriet Krijgh. Their sound is well blended, perhaps to the detriment of hearing individual voices. As a soloist Skride is powerful and exudes originality…

Recommended for those who want all three works conveniently packaged together. Orfeo’s recorded sound is everything it could be. © 2019 Fanfare Read complete review

This may be a debut disc, but the Skride Piano Quartet shows it already has bags of personality. The group finds a balance between generous sound, overall architecture and telling detail. © 2019 BBC Music Magazine

The slow movement opens with nobility of purpose and the Skride Quartet bring weight and depth to Brahms’ rich textures. The transformation of the second theme is impressive, as the exuberant dotted rhythms become weightier and more expansive. The gypsy zingarese finale is one of the most virtuosic madcap movements in the chamber music repertoire. The Skride Quartet start off at a steady pace and gradually build momentum as they go along. The coda is one of the most adrenaline-fuelled jaw-dropping pieces of playing I have heard in a very long time. © 2019 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Richard Bratby
Gramophone, June 2019

There’s not the slightest question of coldness in this account of his G minor Piano Quartet, and why should there be? It’s the work of a composer in his twenties, and it’s to the credit of this multinational chamber supergroup—the Latvian sisters Baiba and Laume Skride, plus Lise Berthaud on viola and Harriet Krijgh on cello—that you never forget this. The sense of tension—of momentum—that’s audible in the very first bars carries right through to the finish of Brahms’s gypsy finale. © 2019 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone
