Peter Burwasser
Fanfare, November 2007

Evan Ziporyn…gives us new material that is thoughtful, joyous, provocative, and completely accessible. This new showcase displays his art on a grander scale than is usual, with music for large ensembles, bursting with color, humor, and beautifully wrought texture. It is hard to imagine the inquisitive music-lover unable to find some way to connect to this brilliant work.

Peter Burwasser
Fanfare, March 2007

The lushness and easy melodiousness of these four orchestral works is almost startling, given Ziporyn’s history, but it is certainly not an unpleasant surprise. An essential element in the texture of this music derives from the large percussion section, reflecting the composer’s intense and life-long interest in gamelan music.

Cantaloupe delivers a rich and colorful sound that matches the music well. A delightful, nearly revelatory release. © 2007 Fanfare Read complete review
