What we…have here are eight brief excerpts from Lang CDs, some fragments from Chopin (E-minor Prelude), Schoenberg (opening of Pierrot) and Grieg (‘Ase’s Death’), and a bunch of very short cues from the film. Appended to the end of the film excerpts, Cantaloupe offers four complete Lang pieces taken from earlier releases: Wed, Sweet Air, his ubiquitous Anvil Chorus (here with Steven Schick), and Cheating, Lying, Stealing (the original recording with the Bang on a Can All-Stars).
This turns out to be a good sampler for Lang’s consistently interesting music, especially if you are just looking for a taste.
