Allen Gimbel
American Record Guide, November 2017

This is a superb group, and the performances that follow the conversations are amazing. The composer’s own recording will always be a first choice, since it is authoritative and just as breathtaking. © 2017 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Joshua Rosenblum
Opera News, September 2017

The marvelous choral singers of The Crossing navigate Hearne’s explosion of styles with fearlessness and authenticity, as does Donald Nally, their impressive conductor. Hearne’s multigenre mastery is impressive, and so is the dexterity with which he deploys his musical and rhetorical skills to advance his vision of social justice. © 2017 Opera News Read complete review

Grego Applegate Edwards
Gapplegate Classical-Modern Music Review, April 2017

The music has a great deal going for it. There are sophisticated multi-part passages, the deliberately banal cutting in to dramatize things, and a great deal in between. It is a work where I must admit on the strictly musical level I greatly appreciate much of it, and some elements less so. But the good outweighs the less good with a balance decidedly tipped onto the positive side. And the subject matter could not be more important to us. © 2017 Gapplegate Classical-Modern Music Review Read complete review
