Joel Kasow
Fanfare, November 2013

The ninth in a series of releases devoted to Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes focuses on Henri Sauguet and Darius Milhaud, the former largely neglected these days despite an impressive body of work. Milhaud in popular vein is always charming, and the two works should allow us to better understand the contemporary appeal of the Ballets Russes. © 2013 Fanfare

Musical Opinion, November 2013

A very beautiful record of some very beautiful 1920s-type ballet music. Milhaud’s Le Train Bleu is…highly attractive and winningly orchestrated. It is very different from the contemporary ballets from this composerand is an excellent French ’pastoral” score of great charm, excellently played and recorded—as are the other pieces here, making a really attractive disc In this important series. © 2013 Musical Opinion
