Phillip Scott
Fanfare, May 2016

The Third Symphony, “Liturgique” (1946) is a work springing from the composer’s personal experience of the Second World War, and like other music of that era it unflinchingly depicts the relentless, soul-destroying war machine. It also contains lovely lyrical passages…that reflect a deep yearning for peace. Both sections demand detailed pointing; the greater the contrast, the more effective the performance. © 2016 Fanfare Read complete review

Deneve’s performance of the Third Symphony is powerful, disciplined, detailed, and scrupulously balanced. The clarity is startling (e.g., the oboes near the beginning), creating a strikingly clear-cut landscape. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Charles T. Downey
Ionarts, November 2015

The third symphony, known as “Symphonie Liturgique,” is a smoldering commemoration of the horrors of World War II. The slow movement (“De profundis clamavi”) is especially beautiful, representing a more tonal strand of 20th-century music that now seems more relevant than ever. © 2015 Ionarts Read complete review
