Bertil van Boer
Fanfare, July 2020

The performance by Julia Karpeta is excellent. She is both dexterous and quite musical in bringing out the various nuances of both composers’ styles. Her accompaniment is also nicely copesetic…This is a lovely set of works that demonstrate what the gamba was like during its French heyday. The sound is quite clear, and even the lower register growly parts come through with some verve. For an hour’s entry into the world of the French Baroque, this disc will do nicely. © 2020 Fanfare Read complete review

David W. Moore
American Record Guide, May 2020

Julia Karpeta comes from Poland, as do most of her colleagues here. There she studied with Petr Wagner, and she continued her studies on our side of the ocean with Brent Wissick at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She plays with sensitivity and enjoyable verve a Suite in D from Book III, and two in A minor from Books IV and V. These are separated here by three pieces by Forqueray, ‘La Couperin’, ‘La Leclair’, and ‘Chaconne la Buisson’.

This program introduces us to players who are clearly worth listening to. © 2020 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

MusicWeb International, March 2020

Authoritatively performed, finely recorded, and with Julia Karpeta to the fore phrasing with sensitivity, this is an engaging and enjoyable reflection on the French gamba tradition. © 2020 MusicWeb International Read complete review
