Kenneth Keaton
American Record Guide, March 2014

Azabagic’s playing is expert, technically flawless, ever inventive, with a rock-solid rhythm and gorgeous tone. © 2014 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Robert Schulslaper
Fanfare, March 2014

Alan Thomas conceived his suite Out of Africa as a series of impressions inspired by African “styles of singing…additive rhythms, irregular metric groupings, and pentatonic or pandiatonic scales.” Besides being subliminally linked in this way, the various movements together paint a musical portrait of idealized daily life…Azabagic’s idiomatic, technically flawless performances of this colorful repertoire should be required listening for guitar lovers everywhere. © 2014 Fanfare Read complete review

MusicWeb International, February 2014

Guitarist Denis Azabagic is superb all the way through, and I can’t imagine the five composers being happier with performances of their works. It’s as if technical difficulties do not even exist, and his slow build-up from one near-silent thread of notes to a glorious full sunrise in Out of Africa bespeaks an equally impressive mastery of expression. The sound quality is pretty great, too. © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Rick Anderson
Baker & Taylor CD Hotlist, December 2013

Despite their often explicitly folky sound, these works draw deeply on Denis Azabagic’s considerable virtuosity, and are often absolutely thrilling. © 2013 Baker & Taylor CD Hotlist Read complete review

Lisa Flynn
WFMT (Chicago), October 2013

Denis Azabagic invites listeners into a realm where world, folk and classical music intersect on ‘Out of Africa and Around the World,’ the Bosnia-born, Chicago-based virtuoso’s first solo album on Cedille Records. Showcasing works by living composers, the album takes its title from Alan Thomas’s evocative Out of Africa, inspired by the Karen Blixen memoir and movie of the same name. Thomas weaves together strands of African singing styles, scales and rhythms, while paying homage to African string instruments, such as the kora and the oud. © 2013 WFMT (Chicago)
