James H North
Fanfare, November 2006

The tenor has a fine ring, and the baritones are stylish and solid; vocal ensembles are lively if somewhat rough and ready. A good-sized orchestra (pairs of flutes, oboes, horns, and a clarinet, with strings 9/7/6/4/2) plays smoothly; the solo oboe is especially warm and colorful. Conductor Dimitri Jurowksi (not to be confused with the Russian National Orchestra’s Vladimir Jurowski) keeps everything moving along. A sweet-toned harpsichord enlivens the recitatives with imaginative flourishes. A bright, well-balanced recording captures everything nicely. © 2006 Fanfare Read complete review
