new-classics.co.uk, December 2016

This live world premiere recording features the Lausanne Opéra production of 2005, conducted by the brilliant Jean-Claude Malgoire. Soloists include Sébastien Droy in the title role, Sophie Marin-Degor (as Sophie), Marc Barrard (Squire Western) and Rodolphe Briand (Blifil). A rare treat that revives an unjustly neglected work by this intriguing composer. © 2016 new-classics.co.uk Read complete review

David L Kirk
Fanfare, January 2007

Growing out of the Italian intermezzo, the French created the comédie mêlée d’ariettes, later referred to as the opéra-comique, of which Tom Jones is a good example.

It’s a lively, fast-paced, energetic production with solid musical contributions. A cast of good actors who can sing has been assembled with an orchestra of 25 musicians. © 2007 Fanfare Read complete review
