Lynn René Bayley
The Art Music Lounge, August 2016

[Quartetto Energie Nove] approach the music in a taut, linear fashion, eschewing any lingering moments of rubato. Indeed, the tempos, once begun, are so strict that one could set a metronome to them and let them go. Yet this is not a negative thing, for within that strict tempo the quartet manages to expand on Prokofiev’s basic instructions by imparting a great deal of electricity to each note and phrase. …They want us to establish both an intellectual and emotional connection with this music, and to that end they do some amazing work. © 2016 The Art Music Lounge Read complete review

Julian Haylock
The Strad, May 2013

…the Energie Nove players throw themselves gleefully into the fray, clearly believing in every note. Relishing the music’s bracing inventiveness and chameleon-like changes of mood, they play with an electrifying frisson that provides a vital musical bridge between the impassioned middle-period masterpieces of Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich’s agonising introspection. Music that often appears to lack a strong sense of structural cohesion feels utterly compelling and inevitable here. © 2013 The Strad Read complete review
