Fanfoni’s reading impresses throughout, in its strutting in the first movement (authoritative despite some hair-raising intonation), filled out by Franco Gulli’s striking and generally idiomatic cadenza; in its suavity in the lyrical Adagio; and (again, unfortunately, despite what many will likely hear as occasional and brief lapses in intonation) in its technical alertness in the athletic finale, one of the sprightliest if not the most melodically memorable of the concertos’ closers. © 2016 Fanfare Read complete review
