Ralph P Locke
American Record Guide, September 2017

The singers, all Italian and all previously unknown to me, have fine voices—nary a wobble to be heard here. All enunciate the humorous text clearly and with appropriate variety. The extensive spoken dialogs flow swiftly and naturally, and I was able to recognize many words and phrases by ear alone.

The singers make their points without ever having to force their voices.

The festival orchestra—mostly Italians—is decent-sized, sonorous, and effective. The passages for the villagers (men only) are superbly sung by a group from Romania. Conductor Beltrami keeps things moving, even in more lyrical numbers. © 2017 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Joanne Sydney Lessner
Opera News, October 2016

The energetic cast goes the extra mile to deliver full-blooded, picturesque characterizations. As Fiorina and Carletto, Carolina Lippo and Francesco Castoro make a pair worth rooting for. Her juicy soprano and his tremulous, heart-on-sleeve tenor give them such strong chemistry that their union seems inevitable, although her dominance is never in doubt. Lippo is a feisty force to be reckoned with, especially in her dialogue, but her buoyant coloratura keeps her sweetness front and center. In the title role, Domenico Colaianni consistently opts for character over flash, leaving one to marvel secondarily at his verbal virtuosity. © 2016 Opera News Read complete review
